Project: A custom-designed and built deck transforms a pool in Seaforth.
We were recently engaged to design and build a custom timber deck for a home in Seaforth on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The owners had long wanted to make better use of their pool area, particularly the sunny end that had been underutilised for years. While one side of the pool featured a small paved area, it remained shaded year-round due to surrounding mature trees. The other end, bathed in sunshine, offered the perfect opportunity to create a relaxing poolside retreat.

This pool was a classic inground concrete design, but because of the sloping land and large sandstone boulders, one end of the pool sat above ground. The owners wanted to extend usable space here, and timber was the ideal material for the job. Flexible and versatile, it could be shaped to work around the existing sandstone while delivering a natural, stylish finish.
Building the new deck.
We constructed the new timber deck so it flowed seamlessly from the existing pebblecrete, creating a continuous and cohesive poolside surface.
The deck was carefully shaped around the large sandstone rocks, turning them into a feature rather than an obstacle.
Timber proved to be the perfect choice because, not only does it blend beautifully with natural surrounds, but it also adapts to spaces where other materials can’t be used as effectively.
Pool fence upgrade finished the transformation.
While onsite, we also upgraded the pool fencing. The old, worn-out fence was removed and replaced with a modern curved black powder-coated vertical slat fence. We extended this around the new deck, tying the entire area together with a consistent, high-quality finish.
The new deck and pool transformation has given the owners exactly what they were hoping for — a sunny space to lounge by the pool, enjoy the outdoors, and make the most of their property.
What was once a wasted, rocky corner has been turned into a functional and attractive poolside deck that elevates both the look and lifestyle of the home.
